It's been three years since SpaceEngine first launched on Steam, and a lot has happened since. While every anniversary is important, the changes SpaceEngine has gone through over the last few months have made this anniversary special.

Without our community, we would not be where we are today. The feedback, encouragement, and patience of our users has helped tell us what matters.

Your support has brought us to a point where we can expand our team, and focus on new avenues of development. While things have at times appeared slow, we have always continued work behind the scenes—and it hasn’t always been easy. For most of SpaceEngine’s history, we’ve only really had 1-2 full-time programmers, with another working part-time. Both this year and beyond, we hope that number will increase, so we can focus on the many improvements we’d like to add to the game (Sorry for delaying the 4k interface!).

There are still many features we know you’d like to see—like 3D clouds and gameplay elements—and we’ve been listening. The main constraint right now is resources: as a small independent developer (technically we’ve only existed for four months as Cosmographic Software LLC), we’re at an important and crucial point: we have to weigh each decision carefully, hiring the right people and choosing which tasks to assign priority.

We have some really amazing content we’ve been working on for the past few months, which we’ll be able to show you soon. If all goes well, this should be released sometime in late July.

And speaking of updates: the roadmap we mentioned in the “company” post is still being worked on, and we hope to have the public version available in the near future. This is a case of not promising what we can’t deliver: we want to get this right the first time so we can be honest with you, our users, while also setting realistic and attainable goals for ourselves and our team.

Looking to the future, we’re excited by what lies ahead!

Thank you again for being part of our community, for your continued faith and support, and for sticking with us through the years. We wouldn’t be where we are today without you.

Sincerely,
The SpaceEngine Team
